11 Days Mt Kilimanjaro Hiking Safari - Lemosho Route

Day 1: to Arusha

On your arrival in Tanzania, you will be personally met by one of our representatives and transferred to Arusha to your choice hotel. In the afternoon, you will have a full briefing session from your climbs manager and safari driver/guide. Dinner and overnight in Arusha hotel.

Day 2: through the forests of Kilimanjaro

Breakfast at your hotel then set off for the Lemosho trail, where you will begin your climb. At this point meet the rest of your crew and set of at a leisurely pace into afro-montane forest. Lunch is taken on trail and camp is reached mid afternoon. Overnight Forest Camp (breakfast, lunch, dinner)

Day 3: Shira 1

After breakfast, ascend the forested slopes of Lemosho through Podorcarpus and Juniper forest. Break out of the forest on to the heath zone and the Shira Plateau. Lunch is taken on trail and you arrive in camp mid afternoon. Overnight Shira 1 Camp (breakfast, lunch, dinner)

Day 4: Shira 2(acclimatization)

Breakfast early and embark on a relatively long hike.  With significant altitude gain, you will have a short day reaching Shira 2 camp in time for lunch. Have an optional afternoon exploratory walk in the forest with your guides. Overnight Shira 2 Camp (breakfast; lunch, dinner)

Day 5: to lava tower

Enjoy breakfast after then follow the route to Lava Tower out of the heath zone in to the alpine desert zone. Here relatively little flora or fauna can survive the extreme temperature ranges and conditions that typify this zone. Another half day with lunch had at the camp. In the afternoon, depending on weather conditions have an optional scramble to the top of the nearby Lava Tower. Overnight at Lava Tower Camp (breakfast, lunch, dinner)

Day 6: to Karanga

Breakfast early today and embark on the relatively long hike to Karanga camp. You will reach the camp in the late afternoon. Marvel at the views of sunset and spectacular southern glacial valleys and ice fields towering at 1000 m (over 3000 feet) above you. Overnight Karanga Camp (breakfast, lunch, dinner)

Day 7: to Barafu camp

Early morning breakfast after which you will have a half days ascent to Barafu camp. Lunch at the camp, allowing plenty of time for relaxation before the summit bid. You might either experience alpine desert winds or even strong winds at this camp. In the evening enjoy magnificent views of Mawenzi volcano. Overnight Barafu Camp (breakfast, lunch, dinner)

Day 8: to Kilimanjaro crater

After breakfast, begin an exclusive to this route - day time ascent to Kibo crater. The going is slow; however with constant encouragement from your climb team, you will reach the rim of Kibo. Descend a little way into the caldera to Crater camp. The afternoon is spent relaxing and optional short walks can be taken with one of your guides. Overnight Crater Camp (breakfast, lunch, dinner)

Day 9: to Mweka camp

After a night in the crater, have the shortest final summit bid of any route.  The hike to the summit will take only an hour thus timing the sunrise with much ease in comparison to any other route. View Uhuru peak, the highest point of the highest freestanding mountain in the world. Descend for a final night on the mountain at Mweka Camp passing back through the heath zone. Overnight Mweka Camp (breakfast, lunch, dinner)

Day 10: final descent

Have a short final descent after breakfast. At around midday you will be transferred to your choice hotel in Arusha for lunch dinner and overnight.

Day 11: Arusha

After breakfast a day room will be held to allow time for packing and relaxing pre departure, or today you can join ongoing safari / adventure or beach trip extensions.
