9 DAYS KENYA CULTURAL SAFARI

 

Day 1: to Maasai Mara 

Our safari driver will pick you up from your Nairobi hotel in the morning and drive you through the famous rift valley. Have a picnic lunch enroute to the park. Enjoy a game drive enroute to Mara Simba lodge. Dinner and overnight at Mara Simba lodge.

Day 2: game drives in Maasai Mara

Pre- breakfast and evening game drives will be enjoyed in the park. This is because these are the times when animals are most active. This park is also famous for its annual wildebeest migration. Have opportunities to spot the big five: elephant, buffalo, rhino, leopard and lion in this park. Dinner and overnight at Mara Simba lodge.

Day 3: to Kissi

Pre-breakfast game viewing drive in Maasai Mara then drive through Kilgoris town to Kisii town. Visit the Tabaka soapstone mining quarries. Watch the carvers make sculptures out of soapstone. Proceed to a hotel in Kisii town for dinner and overnight.

Day 4: to Kakamega

After breakfast visit Keumbu area to view pineapple and banana plantations, grown by the local community. Drive to Kisumu town for lunch. After lunch visit the Crying Stone where an onsite will narrate the folklore attached to this weeping edifice.  Dinner and overnight at Rondo retreat centre. 

Day 5: to Kakamega forest

After breakfast visit the Kakamega forest famous for its rare species of botanical plants including orchids, butterflies and birds. Have a nature walk in this tropical rain forest that once spread across the equator from the Atlantic Ocean to the shores of the Indian Ocean. Dinner and overnight at the Rondo retreat centre.

Day 5: to Misori beach
After breakfast, visit Misori beach on the shores of Lake Victoria. Sample the modern and traditional fishing methods of the locals. Have a boat ride to a nearby island to see the statue of two fighting bulls. Overnight in a local hotel.

Day 6: to Kisumu
Have breakfast then proceed to Kisumu. Visit the Kit Mikayi, a gigantic bolder that, according to Luo folklore is believed to be the remains of a lady who was forced out of her homestead by a jealous husband.  Visit the Lwanda Magere stone considered to be the remains of a mighty Luo warrior who was killed after a betrayal by his wife. Overnight in local homestead or hotel. (Breakfast, lunch and dinner are included.)

Day 8: to lake Baringo

After breakfast drive through the Kericho Tea Plantations to Lake Baringo - an excellent bird watchers' destination, with lunch in Nakuru. Most of the afternoon is spent watching the myriad birds that grace the shores of this Rift Valley Lake. Proceed through Lake Bogoria to view the hot springs. Proceed to your hotel for dinner and overnight.

Day 9: to Nairobi

After breakfast, take a boat trip to visit the Njemps Fishermen's village. Drive back to Nairobi after lunch past the pink shores of Lake Nakuru ending your safari.
